Who is Dunmail Systems Engineering?

Dunmail Systems Engineering was formed after both founding Partners, Max and Dan, independently found similar skills and knowledge gaps within high-profile engineering firms they have previously worked for.

Systems Engineering covers a broad swathe of disciplines. The main aim is to form a coherent pipeline for a project to follow that ensures good requirements are formed at the beginning, and fully achieved by the end. This means products are solidly conceived, well designed, thoroughly validated, and only then released to market with the correct regulatory approval. All of this while remaining fit for purpose by actually meeting the needs of the end customer.

In our experience it is these elements that are lacking. Most engineering firms hire great engineers and know exactly how to develop the products they want but don't always necessarily actually end up with what their market or clients want; or fail to get their products to market on time after falling foul of red tape they hadn't anticipated.

That's where we come in. We focus on the process, asking the right questions, and guiding your project teams towards delivering what your customers want, not necessarily what you think they want.

Who are we?

Max Carruthers

Max graduated from Loughborough University with an Masters degree in Automotive Engineering, including a Diploma of Industrial Studies obtained through a placement year at Cummins Emissions Solutions.

Returning to Cummins as a graduate, he pushed the performance and efficiency of engines towards Euro VI and VII standards, and ultimately moved onto the UK FCEV team as hydrogen system integration lead where he led the system engineering process for the vehicle's fuel cell, hydrogen storage system and digital twin.

Max continued FCEV systems engineering work at HVS, and is now a product applications engineer at Turntide technologies, furthering electrification of mobility markets.

Dan Lenartowicz

Dan graduated from the University of Leeds with a Masters degree in Electronics and Electrical Engineering.

He started his career as an integration engineer developing IVD instrumentation on Horizon Europe and privately funded projects. He has since taken on the role of technical authority and compliance lead on instrumentation projects across a variety of sectors including potable water, gas utility, and consumer products.

He has also worked with product-based businesses to secure CE and ATEX marking, and instill good engineering and operational practices.

Max and Dan both hail from the fringes of the UK's lake district and have a shared passion for the mountainous landscapes of the North of England, and outdoor sports. Especially when they involve hills and speed - plus either wheels and mud, or planks and snow.
